3/14 Session Recap

Sean was suddenly caught in a work storm, and may be in jail today. I don't know, because if he is in jail, he didn't use his one phone call to contact me for bail money.

Dolan spent a few minutes in reverie, recalling bits and pieces of his past and the history of the Ten Clans. Here are a few things that came to light :

- Clan Maurus has a strong militia, and borders a mercenary nation to the northwest.

- Clan Evangard is composed mainly of followers of Awilooth, and is led by Sheriff Kerstan Evans (fem) from the town of Evansville.

- Clan Dorset is centered in Dorsetville, and led by Sheriff Norman Langson.

- Clan Nicksen is centered in Steadfast.

- Clan Opperman used to have a stronghold in Defiance Keep, but after the war, they rebuilt in the town of Stonewall. Duke Corvus Opperman leads this clan. Most of this clan are blonde and blue-eyed.

- Clan Astarane is known for training quality mages, and is rumored to have a hidden wizarding school. Marquis Leo Astarane is the head of this clan.

- Clan Verisable is led by Countess Verisable, who is a sorceror and rumored to be a vampire as well. About one family in four has someone with sorcerous powers.

- Clan Castano is led by Don Nicholas Castano, who is a known moneylender.

- Clan Julio closely regulates the trafficking of Twig, a small woody plant that when ground up and burned as incense has an sedating and euphoric effect.

- Clan Gerad is led by Count Emil Gerad.

Each clan maintains its own militia for keeping peace and order, and local ordinances are all clan-mandated. If a person from within the clan needs help, then the clan and the militia will come to their aid. Outsiders may be charged extra, or not helped at all. Once a year, the clans send their leaders to a meeting where they decide who will be the representative to the Queen.

Any citizen may call for the Queen's Justice, since the Ten Clans are part of the Heartlands. But this is often fruitless. Either the person will wait for months (or years) for a Queen's Magistrate to arrive, or they will have to travel to the capitol themselves. In cases where a person is accused of a crime, the waiting will usually be done in a dungeon (which can lead to starvation and death), or they will be marched behind mounted militia on the way to the capitol (which often leads to dislocated shoulders, broken bones, dehydration, and death).

Make friends with a Clan and enjoy their protection. Make enemies of a Clan, and suffer the consequences. The good news is, most clansmen value honor, and so they are a polite people. the bad news is that it's not hard for outsiders to dishonor someone accidentally.
