June found herself parting ways with her new friend Umet, and realized she might want to catch up to the rest of the party for a bit. She rode like mad up the road, crossed the river with the elemental ferryman, and ended up just outside the ruins of Old Dorset. But she hadn't seen the party's wagon yet. So she backtracked down the road, and amazingly she ran into the rest of the party, who had taken a long detour through Fallwood.
The party traveled a bit closer towards the ruins, and camped for the night. In the wee hours of the morning, everyone was awoken by a cry of pain and, "Ogres!". Two of the brutes attacked the camp, and had already knocked one of the guards unconscious. June jumped to her feet, drew her rapier, and blasted the ogres with a sonic attack. Dolan leapt to attack, and was smashed to the ground by a backhanded swipe with a greatclub. Melicertes managed to brain- fry one of the ogres instantly. Roveles started shooting arrows into the one left standing, and Cyrus rolled out of the way while trying to avoid looking at the privates of the Ogre standing over him.
The remaining guards mobilized, and a combination of spears and arrows killed the last ogre. Dolan was stabilized, as was William, the guard that was knocked out. The ogres had some gold pieces, but that was it.
The next day, the party headed through the ruins, forded a river, and entered the town of Dorset. Saving a visit to Sal's Tavern for later, most of the party headed directly to the Town Hall. On the stairs of Town Hall was a young woman who was crying. Dolan spoke to her, and got her story. But only after meeting with a councilman in the town hall. The councilman said that the sheriff wasn't in at the moment, but listened patiently to Dolan's explanation about how the party were emissaries to the new Duke of Bos. He asked specifically about the taxation policies of the new Duke, and some vague assurances were given that taxes wouldn't be as harsh for import.
Back outside, the party learned that young Jeni (17 years old and not as cute as June) was missing her brother James and friend Kalvin. James and Kalvin were young adventurers (Kalvin is a mage) who had agreed to help a clanless woman find her daughter who had run off. Dolan promised to help her, so the party headed out with Jeni to this woman's farm.
The woman's name was DeeAnn, and she appeared to be a single mother with a tiny farm in the middle of nowhere. Her 12-year-old daughter Lisa had run away after a fight and never come back. James and Kalvin set out to find her, but they never came back either. Lisa left home thirteen days ago, and James and Kalvin set out 2 days after that.
The party agreed to track them down, and posted Neil (one of their hired guards) to watch over DeeAnn and Jeni while the rest of the party moved on. Roveles tracked Lisa to a pond a few miles away, and then to a rock outcropping, where there was blood and a scrap of torn fabric. He also tracked a large clawed bipedal creature and two other humans nearby. Choosing the human tracks, the party traveled a few more miles and came across a country hick with a bow and arrow who demanded to know what they were doing "on his deddy's land". They told him they were looking for a little girl, and possibly a couple of young men who had come this way. He led them back home, saying that his deddy would know what to do. Deddy Osborne invited the party to stay the evening with him and his large family (at least 15 to 20 young men and boys, plus about as many women in the house), and said that they'd set out search parties tomorrow morning. When they asked him about a possible creature out there, he said he didn't know about anything like that, but Roveles and Dolan got the distinct impression that he was hiding something.
The session ended with the party getting ready to bed down in the barn. There were some comments questioning why the party was staying with these backward fucks, but the answer will have to be found next week.
